POSITION DESCRIPTION

Bookkeeper

 

SUMMARY

 

Responsible for recording transactions and maintaining the financial records of the agency and providing prompt, accurate and courteous accounting support service to clients and agency personnel.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Maintain payroll records and process payroll checks twice each month
  • Prepare and distribute all monthly, quarterly and annual tax reports & forms
  • Reconcile insurance carrier statements and process payments to insurance carriers
  • Process customer and insurance carrier receipts
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports to agency management including accounts receivable, trial balance, balance sheet, income and expense and budget reports
  • Maintain and reconcile bank accounts and make deposits
  • Process payments to vendors
  • Invoice premium bearing transactions when requested
  • Maintain all financial activity in the agency automation system
  • Keep producers fully informed of all important financial activities on their accounts
  • Develop positive working relationships with clients, company personnel and other agency staff
  • Assist with answering inbound telephone calls and mail duties
  • Perform other specific duties and projects as assigned by agency management

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Upbeat, positive attitude and complete confidentiality are absolutely mandatory.  Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills are required. Candidates must be able to effectively manage multiple tasks, and work independently or as a team member. Good computer skills—including Microsoft Office and the internet are a required. Knowledge of AMS360 agency management system is a plus.  Candidates should have a two-year college degree and two years previous experience in accounting / bookkeeping; however, appropriate experience may be substituted. Candidates must hold active NC agent’s license or be willing to obtain an agent’s license at the request of agency
