Government Affairs

Insurance is one of the most regulated industries in the business world. As an independent agent and a member of IIANC, your voice is heard by legislators and regulators through the efforts of the Big "I".

The Big “I” is your advocate on the issues that matter to your success, whether the issues occur in the NC General Assembly, Washington D.C., the NC Department of Insurance, the NAIC, or the judicial system. Through common-sense, pragmatic legislative initiatives, we seek to protect your business while keeping the consumer in mind.

You are busy running your agency, selling insurance and servicing your customers. That's why IIANC represents you every day in your state legislature, state insurance department and on Capitol Hill. With intensive lobbying efforts, the government affairs teams at both IIANC and IIABA seek to educate lawmakers on issues that will preserve the viability and prosperity of independent insurance agents.

Throughout Capitol Hill, the Big "I" is know for its grassroots power and clout - with five sitting U.S. Presidents addressing our association in the last three decades and a lobbying team lauded by Fortune, Roll Call, the Wall Street Journal and many other publications. There is a difference between pounding the pavement every day and saying that you can make a difference from afar. The Big "I" offers members real on the ground state and national representation that makes the difference between a vibrant independent agency system or potential extinction.
