MetLife Auto & Home®
is a subsidiary of MetLife, Inc., the holding company for MetLife, a leading global provider of insurance, annuities and employee benefit programs serving over 90 million customers in over 60 countries. MetLife Auto & Home is the 12th largest personal lines property and casualty insurance company in the U.S.1 and the nation’s leading provider of employer-sponsored group auto and homeowners insurance. And because MetLife Auto & Home is “A” rated2 (excellent) by A.M. Best, the insurance industry’s leading ratings provider, you know we’ll be here when you need us. MetLife is a proud supporter of IIANC as a member of the 2014 IIANC PARTNERS Program.
In the state of North Carolina, MetLife Auto & Home requires package only business – the auto must accompany the homeowner policy and property cannot be written in tier 1 and tier 2 counties (see below for counties).
Secondary homes are available with the primary home, and we can write up to 3 landlord dwelling policies with the primary home and auto. We are most comfortable with homes located in protection classes 1-8 but underwriting can approve a home located in a PC9. No home coverage is available in a PC10.
Property cannot be written in the following counties:
Tier 1 counties of: Beaufort, Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Hyde, Jones,
New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender and Tyrrell.
Tier 2 counties of: Bertie, Bladen, Chowan, Columbus, Duplin, Gates, Greene, Hertford, Lenoir, Martin,
Perquimans, Pitt, Robeson, Sampson, Washington and Wayne.
We write a GrandProtect® package which is the HE7/21 policy for homes valued at $200,000+ and
when the automobile coverage is placed in our top two writing companies. (Our rating system takes care of the placement of the policy in the appropriate writing companies.) We will also write a ComboSM
policy for homes valued below $200,000, and this policy is an HO3. Our minimum dwelling coverage is $100,000. The combo is available in all auto writing companies and allows the policies included to have one bill, one policy number and one effective date. Both the GrandProtect and the Combo policies can include up to 11 lines of business. These can include the home, auto, boat, motorcycle, landlord dwellings, ATV’s, golf carts and personal excess liability policies. We can include up to six cars and seven drivers on our automobile policies. Our personal excess liability policy requires underlying automobile coverage of $100/$300 limits.

2 Ranking is based on A.M. Best Company’s (Nov 2012) independent opinion of our financial strength and ability to meet our ongoing insurance policy and contract obligations. It is based on a comprehensive quantitative and qualitative evaluation of our balance sheet strength, operating performance and business profile. The A rating is the second-highest rating amongst nine levels.
